 The 2013 IHSA Speech-Individual Events State Finals will be unfold on Friday and Saturday, February 15-16 at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria. The 2013 state meet marks the 73rd annual edition of the state final and the fourth year that the Peoria Civic Center has hosted the event.
State champions will be crowned in 14 events over the course of the meet, including an overall team champion based upon points earned in each individual event. A top team will also be recognized in the Performance in the Round category, although that event does not earn points toward the overall team title.
The 2012 tournament was historic for Downers Grove South, as the school added to its IHSA-record total with a 16th team state championship, just weeks before its legendary coach Jan Heiteen was announced as a part of the 2012 NFHS Hall of Fame class. Downers Grove South won four events a year ago en route to the title, while Downers Grove North and Oak Lawn tied for second-place. Chicago Heights Marian also had a pair of individual state champs a year ago, both from Jaboukie Young-White.
