On Friday, October 9, 2015, Rockford Lutheran senior running back James Robinson set the new state career rushing record during a 56-19 victory over Byron. He concluded the contest with 8,681 career rushing yards.
Robinson set the new career mark on a 25-yard run on third down with 7:52 remaining in the first quarter. He broke the previous record set by Westville’s Caleb Pratt (8,477 yards) from 2004-2007.
Robinson entered the year with 6,584 yards (1,888 yards in 2012, 2,469 in 2013, 2,227 in 2014) and has at least three contests remaining in his career to continue to add to the record.
At his current pace of 299.5 yards per game, he also has a chance to best the IHSA single-season rushing record of 3,325 yards set by Lexington’s T.J. Stinde in 2009.
Robinson set the state’s career scoring record in the season-opening victory over Quincy Notre Dame in August.
