A fundraising event called "Gameball Run" benefiting the Children's Hospital of Illinois, was started by the Morton High School boys' basketball program four years ago and has since grown into a massive community event that raised over $62K in 2015-16.

Cold winter weather did not stop the Morton faithful from making their way to Carper Field on Thursday afternoon for more than just a race.

The fourth annual Gameball Run took off in honor of local patients at the Children's Hospital of Illinois. Weeks before the event, the school sold $10 T-shirts to show support.

Started by the Morton boys basketball program four years ago as a small event, the run has become much larger over the years.

“To be honest with you, we started this four years ago as really a much smaller vision and just an oppurtunity to provide a service project annually for our players,” Morton boys basketball coach Jarrett Brown said. “What it’s turned into is obviously a community-wide event that all of our school districts take part in. Its really become an emotional tide that all of us are a part of.”

He said the Gameball Run is something he, along with past and current players will talk about years down the road because of how the events bring players together. Click here to finish the story
