The sports world mourned the passing of legendary University of Tennessee Women's Basketball coach Pat Summitt on June 28, 2016.
Summitt
won the recruiting war for Naperville Central’s
Candace Parker, a two-time IHSA state champion, in 2004, as Parker went on to win two national titles with Summit en route to becoming one of the most recognizable athletes in the world.
Summitt made a trip to the IHSA Girls Basketball State Finals at Illinois State University’s Redbird Arena on March 4, 2011 to see future Volunteer Ariel Massengale and her Bolingbrook teammates take on Whitney Young in the Class 4A semifinals. Summitt was willing to take the time to speak with IHSA TV sideline reporter Matt Rodewald during the contest, which you can see below:
