IHSA Board Takes Action On Two Items At September Meeting

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors met for its regularly scheduled meeting at the IHSA office in Bloomington on Monday, September 16, 2024, where the Board approved two action items.

ACTION
1. The Board approved a dissolution of coops for the following schools/sports:
            -Hutsonville HS/Palestine HS/Oblong HS | Boys & Girls Cross Country
            -Maroa-Forsyth HS/Warrensburg-Latham HS | Girls Cross Country

2. The Board approved the budget for the 2024-25 school year.


APPEALS & ELIGIBILITY RULINGS
1. The Board sustained the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Marist High School in Chicago. The student was granted limited eligibility in accordance with the provisions of IHSA By-law 3.043.3 and was seeking full eligibility.

2. The Board sustained the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Marist High School in Chicago. The student was ruled ineligible for non-compliance with IHSA By-law 3.040 and its sub-sections.

3. The Board sustained the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Parkview Christian Academy in Yorkville. The student was granted limited eligibility in accordance with the provisions of IHSA By-law 3.040 and its sub-sections and was seeking full eligibility.

4. The Board modified the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Parkview Christian Academy in Yorkville. The student was initially ruled ineligible for non-compliance with IHSA By-law 3.040, but was granted limited (lower level) eligibility.

5. The Board sustained the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Parkview Christian Academy in Yorkville. The student was granted limited eligibility in accordance with the provisions of IHSA By-law 3.040 and its sub-sections and was seeking full eligibility.

6. The Board overturned the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Amundsen High School in Chicago. The student was initially ruled ineligible for non-compliance with IHSA By-law 3.030, but was granted full eligibility immediately based on extenuating circumstances.

The following appeals were conducted virtually on September 18, 2024:

1. The Board sustained the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Mater Dei High School in Breese. The student was granted limited eligibility in accordance with the provisions of IHSA By-law 3.040 and its sub-sections and was seeking full eligibility.

2. The Board sustained the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Galva High School. The school was seeking additional eligibility beyond the eight semesters of eligibility currently provided by IHSA by-laws.

3. The Board modified the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Oswego East High School. The student was granted an exemption to Policy 34.

4. The Board overturned the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Christ Our Rock Lutheran in Centralia. The student was initially ruled ineligible for non-compliance with IHSA By-law 3.040, but was granted full eligibility immediately based on extenuating circumstances.

5. The Board sustained the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Glenbrook South High School in Glenview. The student was ruled ineligible for non-compliance with IHSA By-law 3.042.

6. The Board sustained the Executive Director’s ruling on a student from Lexington High School. The student was seeking an additional exemption to a golf accommodation granted by the IHSA.

2. The Board heard a report that the IHSA staff will have a presence at the upcoming Illinois Association of School Administrators Conference on September 25-27, and the Illinois Principals Association Conference on October 20-22.

3. The Board heard a report on nominations for the IHSA Board of Directors and Legislative Commission seats. The deadline for nominations was September 16. Election ballots will open to member schools on September 20.

4. The Board heard a report on the by-law proposals that have been submitted so far for the upcoming IHSA Legislative Process that will occur in November and December. The deadline for submitting by-law proposals is October 15, 2024.

5. The Board heard a report on the NFHS Section IV and V Meeting.

6. The Board discussed By-law 3.160 and gender-specific open gyms.
