Hinsdale Central completed the most successful team school year in Illinois High School Association history on Saturday, May 30, 2015 when the Red Devil Boys Tennis team was crowned state champions at the North Shore Racquet Club in Northbrook.
The trophy marked the school’s seventh IHSA team state championship in the 2014-15 school year, topping the previous record of six set by St. Charles High School (now St. Charles East) in 1998-99, when the school won titles in Boys Golf, Girls Cross Country, Girls Swimming & Diving, Boys Swimming & Diving, Girls Soccer and Baseball.
Hinsdale Central’s titles this year have come in Boys Golf, Girls Golf, Girls Tennis, Boys Cross Country, Boys Soccer, Boys Swimming & Diving and Boys Tennis.
In addition, Hinsdale Central also won a state title in an IHSA activity this year as well, claiming top honors in the IHSA’s Speech-Individual Events tournament. The Speech championship brings the total number of first-place trophies on the year to eight, and is also a new record for combined IHSA sport and activity state championships in a single school year.
The Red Devils record-setting number could still grow potentially, as the Girls Soccer team, Girls Softball team and Boys Volleyball team have all advanced to or beyond the Sectional rounds of their respective state tournaments.
