Glenbard East senior wide receiver Rebecca Deluca-Lane made a historic touchdown in the Rams 56-12 Week 3 victory over East Aurora on September 11.
When the Rams completed a long pass deep in East Aurora territory, Rebecca ‘s teammate fumbled the ball, which hit an opposing player and bounced into the end zone. Rebecca won the footrace to the football for a touchdown, which is believed to be the first varsity touchdown by a female player in state history.
A review of IHSA records and an informal poll of statewide media was unable to produce another instance of a female player scoring a touchdown.
Rebecca is pictured right with her twin brother’s Army recruiter. She decided to go out for football last year after her brother stopped playing the game to rehab an injury.
