The Chicago Bears announced that senior lineman Eric Moreno of Fenton High School has been named the first Community High School All-Star award winner of the season. The Community High School All-Star award recognizes high school football players making a positive impact in their community and school throughout the season.
Moreno, who is on both the football and wrestling teams, has received a number of distinctions including National Honor Society, Fenton Scholars, Fenton Faces, Fenton High School Student Mentor, Illinois High School Coaches Association Academic All-State, Upstate Eight Academic All-Conference, Upstate All-Conference Player and Northwest Herald 2nd Team All-Area Football Player. Through his work at Goldfish Swim School, Moreno has taught swim lessons for underprivileged Hispanic youth. Additionally, Moreno has spent time in the past four years volunteering with the Wood Dale-Bensenville Food Pantry, Feed My Starving Children, American Red Cross, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, World Resources Institute, UNICEF and Shriners Hospitals for Children-Chicago. He has helped out at the Northwestern University food stand to help raise money for various youth programs, worked to raise money for the football program at different events and completed several service projects for the National Honor Society. Moreno is directing the $500 donation he receives for winning the award to Shriners Hospitals for Children-Chicago.
