BVM Sports presents its list of the top 10 boys basketball players in the Class of 2025 within the state:
The Midwest features special high school basketball talent each year and Illinois is one of the leaders in that department.
The Prairie State has produced some of basketball’s greatest legends through the years, including Basketball Hall of Fame members George Mikan and Harry Gallatin several decades ago. More recently, former NBA stars like Kevin Garnett, Dwyane Wade and Derrick Rose first showcased their skills at the prep level in the state.
The 2024-25 high school basketball season in Illinois will again feature an abundance of talented players, particularly within the state’s senior class. Between returning all-state performers and several Division I recruits, Illinois’ Class of 2025 should bring plenty of excitement to the hardwood throughout the next few months.
Here are the top 10 Illinois boys basketball players in the Class of 2025.
10. Tyreek Coleman, PG, Waubonsie Valley
Coleman was highly impressive during a junior season where he earned Class 4A all-state honorable mention and is in line for a big senior year. Coleman averaged 14.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals last season, proving an ability to do a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor. That’s part of why Waubonsie Valley won 27 games in 2023-24, the second-most in program history. The 6-foot-2 guard is a skilled ball handler, has a nice shooting stroke and can finish at the rim, skills that have been on display both with the Warriors and on the AAU circuit with the Illinois Wolves. Following his high school career, Coleman will team up with another one of Illinois’ senior stars, Nick Allen, at Illinois State, committing to the Redbirds over a host of other Missouri Valley offers.
