Before he was a legendary high school wrestling coach at Chicago Catholic League rivals Mt. Carmel High School and Brother Rice High School in Chicago, Bill Weick (above, right) was one of the nation’s top wrestlers.

Weick, who won an IHSA state title at Tilden High School (1949, 155 lbs) and a pair of NCAA National Championships at Northern Iowa, was still the head coach at Brother Rice when he passed away at the age of 85 on August 16, 2017.

Coaching at Mt. Carmel, Weick oversaw 22 IHSA individual state champions and led the program to three consecutive IHSA Dual Team state titles from 1992 to 1994. Weick took over at Brother Rice in 2004, producing the school’s first state champion, when Rudy Yates won Class 3A’s 106-pound class in 2013.
