The radio voice of high school sports in the greater Effingham area for nearly four decades, the beloved play-by-play man of 97.9 XFM and KJ Country 102.3 FM,
Greg Sapp, was honored with his
IHSA Distinguished Media Service Award on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Effingham High School.
Greg, who was nominated for the award by Effingham High School, was recognized at halftime of the Flaming Hearts varsity boys’ basketball game against local rivalry Teutopolis.
The crowd welcomed Sapp, who was broadcasting the game on the radio, to the court with a rousing standing ovation, and remained standing throughout. There was a second show of appreciation
(see video below) from the assembled group, which was followed with the presentation of his award from Effingham Athletic Director Dave Woltman. Sapp closed the ceremony by speaking to the crowd
