Dick Goss, the long-time sports editor of the Joliet Herald News, was honored with his IHSA Distinguished Media Service Award on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the IHSA Class 3A & 4A Baseball State Finals at Route 66 Stadium in Joliet.
Dick, who was nominated for the award by Providence Catholic High School, was recognized prior to the Class 4A Baseball State Championship game.
Goss was doing double duty, as he was also onhand covering eventual 4A state champ Plainfield North, keeping with his near 40-year tradition of top-notch high school sports coverage for area teams. The assignment proved to be his last game in the high school space, as he capped his incredible career by retiring later in the month.
