Bill Stone, who was covered high school sports for a number of publications in Illinois for over 30 years, was honored with his IHSA Distinguished Media Service Award on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the IHSA Girls Gymnastics State Finals at Palatine High School.
Bill was nominated for the award by both Palatine High School and Hinsdale Central High School, who previously hosted the IHSA Boys Gymnastics State Finals.
The presentation at state gymnastics was meaningful, given that Bill’s greatest impact on the high school scene has undoubtedly occurred is in the sport. He has long been the preeminent source for high school Boys and Girls gymnastics coverage in the state after co-founding State Gymnastics Stats (SGS) in the early 2000's. Bill’s nuanced approach and expansive coverage has been a beacon for the sport of gymnastics in Illinois, while simultaneously making him a resource for student-athletes, coaches, judges, and the IHSA.
