LINCOLN-WAY EAST GRIFFINS (34-5)

NEW TRIER TREVIANS (34-5)
Sue Ellen Haak has the Trevians back in the state finals for the third year in a row and looking to get past the quarterfinal round for the first time since 2007’s runner-up team. New Trier’s lone loss in the past 15 matches came against undefeated defending state champ Glenbard West.

Joel Anderson is in his second stint (2004-2010, 2014-present) at St. Patrick, and takes the team to state for the third time (2009, 2010). Anderson is in rare coaching company in that he has also coached in the IHSA girls’ volleyball state finals three times at Payton High School (2008, 2010, 2014). LAKE ZURICH BEARS (29-10)
Head coach Lesly Ravenscraft brings Lake Zurich to the state finals for the first time in school history with a frontline of twin towers in 6-9 Andrew Gilbertson and 6-7 Danny Kraversky. It’s been an emotional season for the team, who whose team motto is worn on arm bands in remembrance of teammate Nate Amos’ mother, who passed away early in the season.

Blocks: 117, Andrew Gilbertson (6-9)

SANDBURG EAGLES (36-3)
The Eagles continue to be one of the state’s premier programs, as they make their sixth start final trip since 2000 (10th overall) and third under head coach Sean Airola, who led to the program to its fourth state title in 2011. The team is 27-2 since April 7, with both setbacks against Lincoln-Way East, who they couldn’t see until the finals.

LYONS LIONS

Four of the school’s previous five state trips under Pyritz have produced trophies, but the Lions will have to avenge an April loss to Sandburg in the quarters if they want to bring home more hardware.

LAKE PARK LANCERS (30-9)
Head coach Tim Murphy is making the state finals a habit for Lake Park, who has now qualified for state four times in the past five seasons. With underclassmen leading every statistical category, the young Lancers appear on paper to be a year away, but they rolled through the postseason with four two-game victories.
