Voting for seats on the Illinois High School Association Board of Directors and Legislative Commission closed at midnight on Friday, October 1, with the results being tallied and certified on Monday morning, October 4.
The election results in three new members joining the IHSA Board of Directors, as well as one returnee. Carterville High School Principal Todd Rogers, who joined the Board in 2018, retained his seat as the representative of Division 7 after running unopposed. Olympia High School Athletic Director Mike Castlemen is the new Board representative for Division 5, while Glenbard East Athletic Director D'Wayne Bates won an at-large Board seat. De La Salle Institute Principal Tom Schergen rounds out the new Board members, as Schergen is the first individual to fill a new at-large Board position that was created by the IHSA membership during last year’s legislative process. Schergen’s at-large seat represents an underrepresented school and must come from a member school that has 50% or more of its student population consist of Black, Latinx, or low-income students per the Illinois State Report Card data.
The Board will elect its officers for the 2021-22 school term at its regular meeting on Wednesday, October 13.
IHSA member schools nominated candidates for the Board of Directors and Legislative Commission beginning on August 13. The nominations were tallied on September 16 and votes were cast from September 20 through October 1.
