As a part of the
2015 IHSA Student Leadership Conference, the IHSA announced that the IHSA
Student Section Showdown will return for its second installment during the 2015-16 school year.
The inaugural contest took place in 2014-15, with Central A&M High School in Moweaqua and Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect being named the champions in Class 1A/2A and Class 3A/4A, respectively. The winning video entries from Central A&M and Prospect are posted below.
The IHSA Student Section Showdown was an idea born from the IHSA Student Advisory Committee (SAC) that pits student sections from the around the state against one another to see who has the best spirit and sportsmanship. Schools have until February 2, 2016 to submit a video (up to three minutes) that shows their student section in action during a game, as well as the impact the student section has on sportsmanship and school spirit.
“Last year was a great debut for the IHSA Student Section Showdown,” said IHSA Assistant Executive Director Beth Sauser. “We had 40 entries, which was a good number based on the shorter timeline (announced in January). We hope to see even more entries this year and believe this contest continues to energize schools and students, while also promoting school spirit and sportsmanship.”
The submissions will be judged by the SAC and representatives from the finalists will be invited to the IHSA Boys Basketball State Finals, where the winners will be revealed.
