The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) will debut its new IHSA Greatest Games Championship Series as a part of the 2017 IHSA Football State Championship broadcasts on
NBC Sports Chicago (channel finder) on Friday and Saturday, November 23-24.
NBC Sports Chicago and NBC Sports Chicago Plus will carry all eight state title games live from Northern Illinois University’s Huskie Stadium in DeKalb throughout the weekend, but fans will be treated to some nostalgia between the championship tilts.
Following the awards presentations and post-game wrap-up of the 2017 title games in Class 1A, 2A, 3A, 5A, 6A and 7A, the IHSA Greatest Games Championship Series will treat fans to a recap of some classic state championship games.
Each classic game is edited down to its most important plays and moments, with Veteran IHSA TV broadcaster Dave Bernhard setting the stage throughout.
“Tradition is such an important part of high school sports in Illinois,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “For many towns and schools, there are a handful of games and teams that are still reminisced about decades later. I think fans young and old will enjoy looking back at these players, teams and games that remain revered.”
