The Chicago Public Schools suspended North Lawndale High School and Marshall High School three games for their roles in the incident at Westinghouse High School in the IHSA Boys Basketball Sectional semifinal on March 11. The forfeit advances St. Joseph (Westchester) to the IHSA Super-Sectional. A statement from IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman is provided below:

IHSA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MARTY HICKMAN:
“The events that occurred last night at the IHSA Boys Basketball Sectional at Westinghouse High School between the teams and fans from Marshall High School and North Lawndale High School are unacceptable in society, no less a high school sporting event. The IHSA has worked in concert with the Chicago Public Schools Athletic Administration since the incident occurred and appreciates their diligence given the timeliness of the situation. The IHSA fully supports the Chicago Public Schools decision for North Lawndale to forfeit the IHSA Sectional final, advancing St. Joseph (Westchester) to the Super-Sectional round. This was not an easy decision to make, but we believe that it is the correct one. Chicago Public Schools and the IHSA are sending the message that incidents like this at high school contests will not be tolerated. We will continue to work with the Chicago Public Schools, Marshall High School and North Lawndale High School on how we can prevent future instances like this from occurring.”
