The 2014 State Finals saw several historic performances, as three wrestlers joined the list of four-time state champions. Dakota’s Josh Alber (Class 1A), Marmion’s Johnny Jimenez (Class 3A) and Glenbard North’s Jered Cortez brought the all-time list of individuals to achieve this remarkable feat to 14 total in state history.
In addition, Alber was in the midst of his pursuit of becoming the first wrestler in state history to complete his high school career without a loss or tie, a feat he would reach one week later in leading Dakota to the IHSA Class 1A Dual Team Wrestling State Title.
Fans will also get to see Highland’s Tanner Farmer (Class 2A) and Hinsdale Central’s Brian Allen (Class 3A) wrestle in the 285-pound finals in last matches of their careers before they become a part of the University of Nebraska and Michigan State University football programs, respectively.
Upsets, repeat champions and exciting matches abound over the course of the three days, as matchups like Rockford Lutheran’s Caleb Micho and Coal City’s Corey Jurzak (Class 1A) come down to the final moments.
