Barry Temkin, who spent over 40 years as a prep sports writer and columnist with the Chicago Tribune, was honored with the IHSA Distinguished Media Service Award during the Chicago Public League Boys Basketball Championship on February 15, 2025, at Credit Union 1 Arena on the UIC campus. Surrounded by his wife, Jody, and daughters Allie and Jenna, Barry was recognized between quarters and was awarded his plaque from IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson and Mickey Pruitt, the Interim Executive Director of Sports Administration Chicago Public Schools.
