NOTES & QUOTES
WINNING COACH KATHY WULLER FROM BELLEVILLE (ALTHOFF)
Coach Wueller says, “I thought they’d come out stronger. I felt that we jumped out to an early lead and that helped us in the end. I think both teams were nervous, but we had the early momentum. We didn’t make the mistakes, which was good. We kept the pressure on them. It was good that we played them. Since they were so close, we knew the calibur of their team. The kids on the team knowing each other and talking with each other is both a good and bad thing. Since we are used to seeing them, it helps with the game plan.”
Jessica Dalke says, “The other team got shaken up after a few serves and we took advantage of that.”
Mallory Sullivan says, “We had great passes all day long which started out our offense. We knew that passing, serving, and ball control would be the key to this game and we capitalized on those things.”
LOSING COACH FRED RAKERS FROM BREESE (MATER DEI)
Coach Rakers says, “I suppose this could be called a humbling expereince. I just don’t think we were ready. We got on the court and didn’t move our feet; although, that shouldn’t have been. These sort of things do happen, but our post- season play wasn’t bad. We went 27-14 , so we didn’t have a bad year. It certainly could have been better. I have a young team, so that is promising. I am proud of these girls. We had to hit hard and move the ball. We failed to do that. There were things we needed to do, but didn’t get them done. We tried to play smart, but instead got trapped.”
