Girls Class A Track & Field State Final Champion Quotes
Class A Team Champion: Freeburg (Record for Most Team Points -86.5 points), Coach Wayne Wiseman: "The day really fell into place. We came here thinking we had a chance to get eleven competitors in the finals. When we found out Megan Alberts got into the finals it really picked up the team. All year this team has just fed off each other. We have such good athletes and they have struggled in some other sports. I think that made them more determined. I'm really proud of what we accomplished today."
Long Jump: Terri Abraham, Sr., Argenta (Oreana) (19-2 1/4--Class A Record): "I was feeling confident about my steps. I wanted to get beyond nineteen feet to get this record off my back. People were expecting me to do this today, so I put a lot of pressure on myself."
Pole Vault: Jackie Marquardt, Sr., Braidwood (Reed-Custer) (11-0—Class A Record)
High Jump: Megan Reese, Sr., Eureka (5-9): "I felt real good. It was a relief at the end being by myself. It was nice to come close to the record. My experience from last year helped."
Shot Put: Megan Alberts, Sr., Freeburg (41-9 1/2): "I felt really good today and it showed because I threw it 1 foot longer than yesterday. This was my first year in track and I just wanted to break the school record. I didn't expect this."
Triple Jump: Terri Abraham, Sr., Argenta (A.-Oreana) (37-9 1/4 – Class A State Record): "My first jump of the day was my best. It feels great to break 2 records. You always have to be confident of you'll defeat yourself. I felt good this morning and I'm pretty happy with my performance."
Discus: Kala Hinrichs, Sr., Rushville (134-3): "I'm very excited about winning today, because I won in Jr. High and now in High School, I was nervous all day, because I knew I was up against great competition."
State Record): "I won as a sophomore and finished second last year, so my game plan going into this weekend was to win again. I wanted to vault twelve feet and beat the Class AA Vaulter, but was unable to do either."
800-Meter Medley Relay: Roseville (1:48.87):
Emily Colclasure, So.: "It was a close finish and we didn't know how it turned out, but we really had confidence in Pam (4th runner). It is great to be a two time champion."
