Notes & Quotes

Thornwood coach Gary Lagesse:
"When you get to this point, coaches can only do so much for the players. The game of softball is funny. It's a game of inches. You don't know from day to day what the kids are going to do."

"(Fenwick) Threw the ball round the field today and we took advantage. That's what we've done all year."

"They hit the ball, and I didn't think three runs would be enough. We didn't feel that lead was safe."

"Nadira (Saafir) gave up only one hit but she wasn't really sharp. I've seen her throw the ball better, but she got by. There have been times when we've relied on her too much, but you have to play defense behind her. We did that today."

"We're not blessed with great hitters, but I felt we could do the little things. It's like power football. You run the ball and do certain things that made you successful."

(On Fenwick's two errors on sacrifice bunt attempts, each of which scored a run): "When you put constant pressure on a team, anything can happen."

Fenwick coach David Power:
"We probaly had more errors today than we've had since I don't remember when. Falling behind by three runs made it difficult on us. I felt we were chasing them and that's a hard obstacle to overcome. I thought we put in a great effort to get to the championship round."

"Ashley (Ballard) was pitching on one leg but really we just had too many errors. We made contact but Thornwood made the plays. The key for us is that this is still the best season we've ever had. I thought we came in very light. Thornwood having been here before probably was an advantage to them."

(About being held to one hit): "That's a little misleading because the key to the game was that Thornwood made some great plays. You have two outs with runners on and they make a catch. Otherwise we get two runs."
