Coach's Quotes and Notes
Winning Coach Joe Thorgeson, Kaneland:
"First of all, I want to congratulate Harrisburg. They have an excellent team and have had a fine season. They should be very proud of their accomplishments. I am very proud of our kids, we have come a long way. I have had 17 teams that have
played that hard. These guys got the chance to show the rest of the state how hard we play."
"Our game plan was to spread them out and throw the ball. We felt that we could run the ball if we could get them spread out. They were very physical but we thought we were quicker. We feel that we have good athletes at every position. Team
speed is such a plus in high school. Our kids love to play defense, in fact we choos our defensive team first before setting our offense."
"Eric Delaney (quarterback) had an excellent game. The key to the game was our score before the half. Our defense let down with about three minutes to go in the 1st half but their pride showed in the second half and they played an excellent
half of defense."
Losing Coach Al Way, Harrisburg:
"We dug ourselves a hole early and that really causes you probles against a good offensive club. We had trouble moving the ball and just could not move against them. We had some passes that could have been caught and were dropped but that is
part of the game. They are a very skilled team both offensively and defensively."
"It was really a killer right before half. We got a bad break on the kickoff when it hit someone's foot at the 50 yard line and we didn't cover up then on the "hook and ladder" play. Their quarterback (Eric Delaney) then made a good pass an
d their receiver (PJ Fleck) caught it for a TD. At that point I knew we were in some trouble."
"I really thought that we did a good job against the run but they hurt us on the roll out and we made some mistakes defensively. When you play a mediocre team you can sometimes play around your mistakes but against a good team like this you
can't make mistakes."
"Give them credit, they threw the ball well but they caught it too. They did an excellent job of spreading us out and exploiting our weaknesses."
