Manager's Comment: Today’s IHSA Sectional at Shabbona Lake was fished under fair skies with temperatures in mid to high 70s, low winds, and lots of sun. These conditions sent water temperatures up into the mid to high 60s and helped the bass move up to feed. Out of 25 boats competing, 18 boats weighed in a total of 59 bass including 7 teams with limits. The total combined weight was 139.55 pounds for an average weight of 2.37 pounds per fish. Most of the bass were moving into the shallows and caught on moving baits. The Big Bass of the Sectional was a 5.65 pound largemouth caught by Austin Strite of Oregon. The 1st Place team was St. Charles North Boat #1 with a limit weighing 15 pounds 11 ounces. St. Charles’ Boat #1 team consisted of Reece Rother, Alex Richmond, and Ryan Nord, and was coached by Dave Fuerst. The 2nd Place team was Rochelle Boat #1 with a limit weighing 14 pounds 13 ounces. Rochelle's Boat #1 team consisted of Lucas Anderson and Zach Capes, and was coached by Curt Samo. The 3rd Place team was St. Charles North Boat #2 with a limit weighing 13 pounds 14 ounces, led by a 4 pound 14 ounce largemouth caught by Ryan Caprini. St. Charles’ Boat #2 Team consisted of Ryan Caprini, Haydon Winter, and Ryan Allamain, and was coached by Tim Pinks. The 4th Place team was Marmion Academy Boat #1 with a limit also weighing 13 pounds 14 ounces (tiebreaker determined by big bass). Marmion’s Boat #1 team consisted of Zach Urwiler, Zack Lawrence, Will McDonald, and Cole Abbott, and was coached by Joe Large. Thanks to Clint Sands and the staff from the Shabbona Lakeside Bait and Tackle for their help with the tournament. Great job by all participating teams and anglers!
