Winning coach: Paul Runyon, Downers Grove (South): "Defensively in the first half, we did an outstanding job on (Robert) Eppinger. I thought (Chris Simms) did a great job of shutting him down."
"I thought offensively both Bryan (Mullins) and Elliot (Engelmann) just played outstanding together as they have for the last couple years."
"I always expected (Jefferson) to come back and get back at us but they never brought the press on us and it was kind of an easy second half."
"(I) just had a lot of fun of getting everyone in."
"The energy level tonight was probably his (Bryan Mullins) greatest of all three games. He really gave a lot of energy this afternoon, but you could see the frustration of missing so many shots, but he made up for that tonight. He got everyone involved."
Downers Grove (South) senior Bryan Mullins: "That (getting a trophy) was our goal coming in here. It's a great accomplishment for this program, the first time ever (getting a boys basketball state trophy). Only two teams get to win to end their season, we're definitely happy to be one of them."
Losing coach: Mike Winters, Rockford (Jefferson) "This evening doesn't matter. It really doesn't. Our kids are frustrated because it seemed like there was a lid on the basket on both ends of the floor all day for us. We ran up against a couple of teams that were really hot. Right now the kids are down in the locker room congratulating each other on just being here. And they deserved to be here."
"I think it is just starting to kick in with the kids. It was hard to get out of there (the locker room) to come to this last interview. They are starting to realize what they have done and when they get home (Sunday) it is really going to start to sink in with them."
