QUOTES AND NOTES
Winning coach: Dave Weber, Northbrook (Glenbrook North) "I thought it was a great effort in the first half. Defensively we took them (Rockford, Jefferson) out of everything they were trying to do, we do a good job of trapping the post so that's something we work on all the time."
"When you play a team like that it's really important that you can do that. Offensively we executed about everything to perfection tonight. They (Rockford, Jefferson) went box and one, they players recognized it and we got play to that, tipped it in. They went one-three-one, we ran our on-three-one zone offensive, and they executed that."
"Everything went to perfection in that second quarter offensively and I think we held them to two points in the second quarter, defensively it was a great effort. I think the most important thing we got some rest today, we didn't have to play thirty two minutes, and these guys weren't in there the whole time. Overall it was great effort where, we're excited to be in this position. It's just something we've always looked forward to and from the first day of practice and here we are."
"Again, we're kind of lucky, they've (Rockford, Jefferson) seen us a lot. We played at the KMOX Shootout (in St. Louis), they were there. We got a good look at them, I think they played to double over time game there, and we had a great chance to watch them. We know their players very well because of the AAU teams."
"I think when we beat Milwaukee Vincent at the City Suburban Shootout; they won five state championships in Wisconsin. Matt Gold didn't even play in that game because he was injured, so we're playing without a starter, and we beat one of the best teams in Wisconsin. I think our players said, we can do this in Illinois. I think that was the turning point where we really thought we could play at this level."
Losing coach: Mike Winters, (Rockford Jefferson) "I don't feel cheated; I don't think it was a lack of effort this afternoon. It seemed like there was a lid on the basket. When you shoot 30-percdnt for the game it makes it very tough to win."
"I didn't think our shot selection was the best all the time but there were times when we had great shots and they would rim in and out. And then they were going down and knocking big shot after big shot. It would have been really easy for us to hang our heads. But I thought we regrouped at halftime pretty well. We held them to 15 points in the second half so there were some positives. But you got to put the ball in the basket to win the game and we didn't do that."
"They did a nice job defensively. They doubled and tripled Pat (Nelson) and Rob (Eppinger) both and I thought we did a better job in the second half of passing the ball out of those situations. We had to trust each other to make that extra pass and learn from it. Hopefully we'll learn the fist time from it instead of the third and fourth time."
(On the championship game match up of Glenbrook North and Carbondale: "I think you have fairly contrasting styles that I think will be fun to watch. Obviously you have to very solid teams. Glenbrook's going to have make a lot of shots to beat Carbondale. They have more top to bottom but I think they are both similar"
