Winning coach: Paul Runyon, Downers Grove South: "We really wanted to hang close with them. We were down eight at the half and I told them to cut it to four going into the fourth and we'd be right where we want to be."
"It was just an unbelievable fourth quarter for us defensively. I thought our defense in the fourth quarter was just outstanding."
"We were going for the last shot but Brad (Riegler) is not going to pass up an open 3-pointer from the corner. Honest, it wasn't called that way, but it just came out that way."
"I couldn't be any prouder, especially with the defensive boards. I thought Kris Caldwell did a nice job of banging. I though he banged Joevan (Catron) pretty good. From where I was standing, he moved him around pretty good."
"We really wanted a full-court game Bryan Mullins has just eaten alive every press that he's ever faced. I told the kids, 'If they press us, I'm looking forward to that because Bryan will go right through it.'"
(On final shot) "We were running the pick-and-roll with Bryan and Elliott (Engelmann) up high. We've run that a lot this year. We've gotten numerous lay-ups from Bryan or a good shot from Elliott. That was our play."
"Our goal was to play on Saturday. Two years ago we played on Friday and just to get downstate was a wonderful thing, but you have to move your goals up to the next level."
Losing coach: Troy Jackson, Harvey (Thornton) "It was a bad omen. We're up 10 points and can't get the ball inbounds, and the kid gets fouled. They (Downers Grove (South)) made the free throws and in a game like this you can't afford to give up two free points. It kind of changed the momentum a little bit."
"It was a physical game. I thought we got fouled several times going to the basket and we didn't get the call. We were very impatient, even with the lead, on the fast breaks and throwing the ball away. What we needed to do was take our time and get the ball where it needed to be."
"The big things that contributed to our losing was our impatience, not getting the calls when they should have been calls and it was that combination that hurt us most."
"I thought Joevan (Catron) was fouled several times but we didn't get the call. They put another big guy in their lineup and they were doubling down on Joevan and there were no calls. I don't know what to say. There were fouls that weren't called. But that only part of it. If we had played smart we could have gotten out of here with a win."
