Winning coach: Joe Murphy, Winnebago: "First of all I want to congratulate Liberty; they are an outstanding ball club. We had major problems with the post player, trying to stop him was really tough."
"It's really nice for us. The tournaments come on and we keep getting better and better scoring, balance scoring. There have been times throughout the year where we have one guy or two guys leading us, but now we're really starting to get that balance going, and that's what we're going to need tonight."
"You do feel comfortable, I've been with him (Devan Bawinkle) now for the third year, he played up as a freshman. We give him that freedom too, but when he misses now it's like, oh dang. But we do, we let him have the ball and let him do his thing."
"I think Wes (Reinke) has stepped his game up down here especially. He started up at super-sectionals up against Rock Falls, they were doing some things to (Devan) Bawinkle, taking him away. We talked to Wes (Reinke) about picking his game up and he did down there. He must have gotten some real good confidence, and since then he's been playing real well."
Losing coach: Jeff Kasparie, Liberty: "The (Devan) Bawinkle kid created not only for himself, but for the kids around him. Once you have six, seven, eight feet to get off a shot, especially on the perimeter, it makes it a little easier, pressure-wise, to make those shots."
"I think he's so quick and he uses his hands with the ball so well that he gets kids back on their feet, defensively, and it's hard to stay with him."
"I said before the game that we needed to keep the score in the 40s and I look up at the scoreboard at halftime and they have 37, 39 points and it's awful tough to come out and let them score one or two points in the second half. I felt we were in a little bit of trouble that way. That was the key, keeping the points down defensively."
"Basketball is a game of runs and they had the stronger runs. We didn't get them stopped. I don't think our defense was poor, it was just that they were on a roll. Once your confidence level gets going, your defense creates a lot of confidence for your offense and I think they (Winnebago) were on that side tonight."
"With a team like Winnebago, as good as they are, you cannot match basket for basket. That's what happened. I don't think our kids' confidence level was terrible, but it was just that, 'guys, come on, you know, we can't do that.' Once they kept getting we score one, they score one, it just didn't fall for us well."
