Winning coach: Roy Condotti, Flossmoor (Homewood-F)
``I hope my players have a little bit more left than I do. Hat was a great basketball game, I thought my kids showed tremendous heart, tremendous desire to come back in the second half. Really not let them have a possession where they (Aurora, West) could rest. That was our goal at half time and that is where we thought we could get them and that is what happened. I thought we had a little more gas in the tank than they did."
``You only play the game you're in. The first question I asked the kids in the locker room at half time was 'are you tired'? They said 'no' so, we'll be ready."
``I thought early in the game the pressure hurt them and exposed what we thought we could exploit. We decided to go after it and we waited until about the middle of the third quarter before we pressed up full. Knowing for a while that we are in really good shape. Our kids work hard every day in practice and I think that ultimately enabled us to keep the heat on. That is what we wanted to do when the press was going full and that we got some easy baskets, some easy points."
``We don't have that kind of a team. All year long we've been five guys. Julian (Wright) as big of a part as our team as he is and we love Julian, but we've played without Julian before and before. When Julian is not on the floor he will be the first guy to tell you that he is not. All season long we've been pretty balanced. We don't change our plan we don't change our game when those kids (Mitchell Hayes, Neil Trainor, Tim Johnson) come in."
Losing coach: Gordon Kerkman, Aurora (West)
"We obviously didn't handle pressure well today. At halftime I was so surprised we were still tied. You can't expect to play that way and still be in the ball game., but we were still there."
"I was disappointed with our offensive execution the whole ball game. We didn't respond well to pressure. I'm not so sure it was any worse the first half than it was the fourth quarter."
"They use a different number of defenses and I wasn't sure what we were going to see. I wish we could have passed the ball by somebody, it seemed like every double-team they put on us in that first half hit them in the hands."
"It probably was (the best pressure we've seen). I don't think there's any question about that. I don't think we've faced anything close to that this year. They aren't only very quick, long arms, but they are very tall and hard to pass over. Fundamentally, I didn't think we executed in handling the traps. We didn't see them coming. We're somewhat of a trapping team at times and they know where we want to trap and they trapped us where we want to trap people and we didn't recognize that until we got into them."
"They aren't that easy to defend. They have a lot of quickness and a lot of size. I thought our defense was sort of holding us in there. That's probably why they didn't get away from us in the first half."
