Winning coach: Paul Pryma, Evanston - ``That was kind of fun, in kind of a perverse way. As you all could see, we were struggling. Belleville West is a team that is so fundamentally complete. The way they move the basketball, the way they play with such great purpose and poise. And they're veterans and they play like veterans. When they needed a big possession they created possessions for themselves. They really didn't allow for us to create much movement on our offense end either. I can't say enough for the way they were prepared."
``Getting to our guys, it would have been very easy for us to just take it all in and recognize, well we got here, we're down, so lets try and enjoy the atmosphere, but our kids wouldn't have that. In the huddles were so fiery and intense that I think that energy infused the kids on the floor to just keep trying harder."
``I don't have an accurate count on our deflections in the second half but they were plentiful and they created so much on the offensive end, and so much life for our team. Primarily our kids didn't quit. I'm very, very proud of them and am very fortunate to work with the quality of young men at Evanston High School."
``Austin Brown has defended all the best players in the state. We were very pleased with our ability to stop him (J.B. Jones), but that is why he is such a good player. We're pleased we shut him down, but to his credit, even though we had so much emphasis on him, he was able to find his teammates. And again, the quality of play of Belleville West was exceptional."
Losing coach: Bill Schmidt, Belleville (West) - ``That game went about eight minutes too long. But seriously, I want to congratulate Evanston. I think they played a whale of a ballgame. They did exactly what we thought they'd do. They're a very physical and very athletic team and a very well coached team. In the short time that we've been up here, I've learned to respect what they've done and getting here, coming through some of the adversity they had to face. I want to wish them good luck as they go through the rest of the tournament."
``I'm extremely proud of our kids. A lot of people didn't give us much of a chance of even getting here, let alone being in contention of taking the next step. We weren't the top pick of the quote-unquote experts, but here we are. I thought our kids played a whale of a ballgame and on a couple of occasions had ourselves in a position to win it. I couldn't be more proud of my kids, not only for this game but for the whole season."
``The three-point shot that ended the third quarter, yes it was a momentum changer, but we still had spots in the fourth quarter where the game was in our pocket. I shouldn't say pocket, but we had some control. Those are the kind of shots that you really don't have to have any control over and you just learn to accept them and move on. In fact, I thought we did a good job of not letting it rattle us going into the fourth quarter. So those are the shots you can't really worry about."
``The key to the game was in the fourth quarter, was in their physical nature and their athleticism. They were playing hard and at the same time we got into some foul trouble. And for a lack of a better word, we operated like a machine, where everybody plays a key role for us. When we got into the foul trouble, its like taking a gear out of a transmission, you're going to have some problems. That's what we faced in the fourth quarter. Where we had J.B. (Jones) in foul trouble and Darren Wilson and Robbie Kaiser had fouled out."
