Winning coach: Chris Payne, Mt. Carroll - ``Well I thought Auburn played an outstanding game. They shot real well. I think they were 15 of 23 in the first half and I was proud of our kids hanging in there. They could have really folded with the shouting the ball the way they did. I thought we defended better in the second half, and Jordan (Delp) made a lot of shots for us tonight and I am just real proud of the kids."
``We didn't sub very much tonight and that was a real up and down game. Auburn looks to really push it as do we and it's been like that all year. We played seven maybe eight kids and they're in great shape. They're going to have to be the way we play."
``Last time I was in the state tournament I was on the losing end. This feels a heck of a lot better."
``I tell you what, we made a lot of free throws, a lot of pressure being built and that was good to see. I'd like to say we played a lot of close games this year, when we were in a lot of situations like that, but it was nice to see the kids step up."
``When we get up, Auburn really picked up their defensive intensity and at the same time we didn't execute real well with the lead tonight in the half court. We need to get the ball on the inside a little bit more. And you've got to give Auburn credit, they were really out pressuring our guards tonight. When you get a lead like that, and it is really in time to go inside and get a high percentage shot or get to the free throw line."
Losing coach: Doug Graven, Auburn - ``Our kids played well it's just the other team shot the ball better than we did. We had some critical shots that just wouldn't fall, but hey, they are a heck of a team. They're big boy (Jeremy Haas) gets up and down the floor very well, and Jordan Delp probably had the shooting of his life."
``We talked about it last night, about how fast paced Mt. Carroll was, and how fast paced we play. We never did panic. We just tried to get back and we might have needed two or three more minutes but it didn't work out that way. There were a couple of shots that were critical but they just wouldn't fall, and that kind of situation happens."
``We wouldn't get the right steal at the right time or we'd get a foul that would put them at the free throw line, we always talk about getting over the five point hump and we tried that several times, and had we gotten over it who knows what would have happened."
``We just got through talking to the team about the season and about how far we've come. You always want to play one more game, but our season is over now. Most of these guys started back in August in football and had a great year, and then they come this far in basketball. This season is really a tribute to them and how hard they've worked."
