QUOTES AND NOTES


Winning coach: Gary Browker, Pana - ``It was an alright game, very exciting, a lot of fun. Farmington plays hard, plays tough, and they're a little more athletic than people give them credit for. They ran the ball and we felt if we get them to make some decisions on the dribble that we'd have an advantage and they'd throw the ball away. And they did, but only very few times. In fact, they ended up getting some easy baskets on us. To their credit, they handled the ball better than we give them credit for. Early in the season, they had some trouble with those things and they definitely have improved and that is why they made it here."

"A couple of breaks in different situations, and they're playing tomorrow and we're not. We got where we had a lead but they battled back hard, got it even, and took a lead on us. But we stepped up and hit some big shots and did some things right. The most impressive thing, we out-rebounded them, which I definitely thought was a key to the ballgame. It was more scrappiness for us when the ball came down, we wanted it a little more than they did."

(Concerning the Farmington lay-up, which looked like it was going down but didn't with 9 seconds) "I was planning our play. I thought the game was tied. I had it in my mind- tied ballgame. But the ball came back out. In the locker room after our games we have a prayer. I told the kids tonight that's why we pray."


Losing coach: Tom Wierzba, Farmington - ``Pardon my voice first of all, it hasn't been good for the last couple of days. I just got done telling our players in the locker room that I'm not a very good loser. But, I can accept losing when we give it everything we have on the basketball court."

"Tonight we did. And I also told them we didn't lose the basketball game tonight. Pana won the basketball game. I thought (Justin) Shrake and (Jake) Sinclair both made awfully tough shots. You have to give them a lot of credit and it's a tough one for us to swallow."

"When we came back from 15 to 4 down and even took a little bit of a lead, they made the big shots. I thought early the first two threes that Shrake made that we weren't doing a very good job defensively. On every one he took after that we were on top of him but he was still able to get the shot off and get the basket. We even deflected one and it still went in."

"I also think that when you get into the state tournament you've got to be good and sometimes you've got to be lucky. Tonight I just could not believe that the lay-up that Ryan (Welker) took with about 9 seconds left didn't stay in the basket. I mean, it was all the way down and for some reason it came back up. It was almost like there was a bottom on it that pushed the shot back out. It just boggles my imagination that it happened. I'm not complaining but it still amazes me that that basket didn't go all the way through."

"I've been in a few games like this. When you've been in coaching as long as I have you see a lot of things. The lay-up was just one of those rare mind-bogglers. Those two kids, Shrake and Sinclair, are very smart players who take advantage of situations and to be good basketball players that is what you're supposed to do."
