Winning coach, Bennie Lewis, East St. Louis (Sr.)
``We were a little down this afternoon after losing in the semifinals and we came out a little sluggish in the first quarter tonight. We started to pick it up in the second quarter with Darius (Miles) running the fast break and feeding the guys in the lane. We started to play the way we can play, the way we've played all year."
``We didn't play that way earlier today. If we had, we'd have been playing for the state championship tonight. But we didn't. We played for third place and we won it so we'll take it. It was a good game for the guys to go out with considering all but one are seniors. It's a good way for them to go out with a win. I'm proud of what the guys have done this year."
``It was a kind of bittersweet day. We came here to play for the state championship and naturally you're disappointed when you don't get a chance to do that. We have some guys on the team who we think will be pretty good players next year. Having to replace guys like Darius and Phillip Gilbert is not going to be an easy task. These kids have had a good two years and they've been our leaders for the last two years. They will be missed."

``You know I guess the first half we started the seniors. I knew if we got in this situation, I was going to play the seniors. These guys have meant a lot to the program not only on the floor, but what they did off the floor. They are great leaders. They led by example. These guys in the locker room were very supportive. If somebody comes in with a gripe, they didn't listen unless they felt it was right. They have a lot to do with our character. Our talent didn't get us here. It was our character that got us here. The desire to win and never give up."
``For the fans who were watching it may have appeared boring but it did matter to us. These guys deserved it. Of course, we wanted to win the game They were much more deserving than whether we got the third or fourth place trophy."
(Ben Silver when asked about blocking Darius Miles' shot) ``I hope so. I told him about it when I did it. I don't think he really cared that much. After all, he's going to the draft and I'm not."
