QUOTES AND NOTES
Winning coach, Chris Head, Chicago (Westinghouse)
``We played a great basketball game. We came out and did the things we really wanted to do and I think we kind of surprised some people by not pressing right at the start. There was a reason for not pressing. I didn't want any of our key players getting in any kind of foul trouble early and I really didn't know how the game was going to be officiated. So I kind of played it a little passively with our defense just to see if we could stay out of foul trouble at least until the second half."
``In the second half we picked it up a little bit. We got a couple of turnovers which put us right where we really needed to be. We had a couple of mental lapses during the second half and those are things I'll talk about when we get back to the hotel to get ready for our next opponent, which is a very good West Aurora team."
(On Martell Bailey, Sr. Guard) ``Without a doubt, Martell is our floor leader. Without a doubt he is one of the keys to our successes this season. He is the one responsible for getting our offense started and getting the ball to the right people. Defensively just organizing everybody. Martell has played a very important role in the past four years of the program. Personally, I think we have a lot of great basketball players in our program. Martell and Cedrick (Banks) kind of get all of the publicity but there are others who can do just as much as those two guys."

``First of all, I thought the game was played exactly how we wanted it played---slow paced. We controlled the tempo, maybe they liked slowing it down but it was the pace we wanted."
``We couldn't make shots and we got a lot of nice shots. They were explosive at times but for the most part I thought we kept them in check."
``They had a little bit of a run when we got it to 12 a piece. But boom, they got seven right away. I don't know if it was the quickness or if we shot quicker but we did shoot a little deeper than what we want. We shot a lot of 3's."
``They're so quick, it is very tough to get (Ben) Silver in the game. We couldn't get to him on the block. If anything, I don't know if we necessarily shot quicker but we had to step out a couple of steps. I thought it was going the way we wanted it to go, it could have went our way."
``When we missed those four free throws, that was a turning point."
``Playing in the third place game, we'll find out the character of our team. I told the kids it was not our athletic ability that got us here, it was our character.
