Winning coach, Bob Darling, Peoria (Richwoods)
``I thought our kids did a nice job. Rock Island really hurt us on the boards tonight and if Steve Turner hadn't been there we would've probably been buried. He did a great job in the first half. He goes out and makes 17 points. I've told Bob Leavitt (Peoria Journal Star reporter) several times we just find ways to win and tonight was another game where we found a way to win."
``Our kids stepped up and played well enough to win. Our defense has been steady all year long. It was not a big game and trust me when it's ugly we have a good chance to win the ballgame. I think we're pretty comfortable. I think that in the second half we got out to a nice lead and we knew Rock Island wasn't going to fold. We're not the type of team that is going to blow somebody out. Rock Island came back and eventually got the lead. We could've folded at that point but I'm very proud of our kids for coming back the way they did."
``Steve Turner made a big shot down the lane that put us back up one. It was a big time shot."
``They shot a lot of free throws, didn't they? I know it seemed like they were at the free throw line a lot. We kept putting them back at the free throw line and putting them back at the free throw line and they weren't making up any ground. We gambled too much."
``We started off in the zone and they hit the lob-pass for the stuff so we got out of that real quick. We tried the zone to start the second half and again they hit the lob-pass and we got out of the zone again. We started playing man-to-man and Geoff Richards did a nice job out front in trying to trap them every now and then. We have a very good containing defense but when you see a big kid like John Banks out there working with the basketball we had to try and contain him as well. We put Marcus Jackson out there with him and it was a good match up for us."

``I'm very proud of these kids. We got down here two years in a row. A lot of teams would love to achieve that. We did it. Certainly we would have liked to have brought home some hardware this time. It was a winnable game, hard fought game, lot of turnovers. A lot of ifs in that game."
``That is the first technical I've had in seven years. What I said: "Call them the same way at both ends."
``I don't know when we've only had 11 points in a half- I don't like to remember. I probably had them. Only 11 AT Quincy, they only had 14."
``We had turnovers in critical situations. We got back, got ahead, then had a big turnover. 15 (Steve Turner) hit a great shot in through the lane, that was a tough shot. He's a good player. He's the best athlete they had."
``We increased the pressure a little. I thought we turned them over enough times to get back in it. We've seen them play enough times and seen them do exactly the same thing. They like to start that zone; I've never seen them start man-to-man. If the zone is working, they'll stay with it. If they get behind or it's close, they come out and play their man."
