Winning coach Bob Williams, Schaumburg
``First of all we're very happy to be playing on the last day of the season. I just told our kids after the game that the true test of a man and his character is what happens when everything goes wrong, when things aren't going your way, what is your response? We found out that our team is made up of a bunch of men with great character. Things didn't go anything like we planned them and that a credit to Rock Island and their defense.''
``Their defense took us out of our comfort zone and things were going wrong. We started missing free throws and doing lot of things that weren't planned. We kept playing and giving a solid effort through that and I thought that was the difference in the game. It was a great high school basketball game with effort on both sides. Both teams played extremely hard. We're happy, excited and honored to be playing on the last day of the season.''
``We were hopeful we would handle their pressure a little better. We adjusted some things at halftime and to be honest that's the best pressure defense we've seen all season as far as a full game. They kept changing things the entire game and it gave us the feeling that, Yeah, this is going to be one of those games. The one thing we told the kids is that they needed to be able to defend people. It was going to be the one thing that would win this game for us.'
On Mark Pancratz's play - ``I'm probably going to embarrass him but Mark is the type of kid I have to ask him sometime to leave the gym or I ask someone to watch the gym because he shoots constantly. The shot he took is a shot we practice all the time. The big thing though is he had six rebounds down the stretch.''
Losing coach Duncan Reid, Rock Island
``We were mirrors of each other at halfcourt. But they were able to get a few more turnovers. There were a lot of interior moves we should have finished on and that was certainly a key for us not winning. Let's give credit to their defense.''
``Their kid (Mark Pancratz) hits the big three in the fourth quarter and yes we lost him. But he still had to hit it and he did. From up one point to up four points, that was a key for them.''
``That's just a matter of in your face defense on us not shooting that many threes. It's not that we weren't looking for them.''
``They were under pressure for our guards to make good decisions. Sometimes they made them and sometimes they didn't. This team got better as the season wore on, especially on offense.''
