Winning coach George Stanton, Chicago (Whitney Young)
``It feels great to win our first championship. The kids really deserve to win because the have worked so hard all year. You Really have to hand it to them.''
``We weren't surprised at all that Galesburg played us right down to the wire. Galesburg is a great team and the magnitude of this game made it even tougher.''
``Quentin (Richardson) was looking for some calls that he wasn't getting out there tonight and was pretty quite for most of the game. Finally though he just gutted it out like a true champion does and really picked us up.''
Losing coach Mike Miller, Galesburg
``It's been a great season and it would have been much better had been five points the other way. I thought we played really well and did what we could. They are a great, great team and I thought we were right there until the end.''
``They kind of denied a lot of the things we wanted to do but obviously we did some good things too. We were right there at the end. They made some big plays at the end.''
``If you had told me at the beginning of the year we'd finish second in the state, losing to Whitney Young I'd probably said, ''Yeah, right.'' Obviously now that is true doesn't make this any less of a great effort by these guys.''
``These offensive rebounding all game long. We just had trouble because they are so big and strong. We were just physically outmatched.''
