Winning coach Loren Wallace, Quincy (Sr.)
``A lot of times people don't think the third-place game means much. But it does to these kids to the school and to the community. There's a lot of pride in Quincy and when we step out on the floor we want to win. These three young men (Kevin Douglas, Ryan Kelly and Kori Douglas) that I brought with me I moved up the varsity four years ago. They have played four years and this is a great way to go out.''
``When you're playing in the final four there are no easy games. Your legs get tired, especially in that second game. We're an above 70-percent free throw shooting team and we had the free throw shooters at the line that we wanted. It was just a matter of they got a little tired, lost their concentration and let them get back into the game.''
``I really think their a good feeling among these kids now that they have won the third-place trophy. Fifteen years from now they'll definitely enjoy that third-place trophy much more than the fourth-place trophy. You end the season with a win and we played for it. They were a hard team to play; they are very physical, they take a lot out of you and they were well coached. We wanted that trophy and we earned it.''
Losing coach Jim Sullivan, Des Planes (Maine West)
``It's been an enjoyable two days for us. As disappointing as it was to lose (Saturday), and to have a Saturday like we had but it's still been an historic weekend for Maine West and a great couple of weeks.''
``Kevin (Frey) injured his ankle (with 14 minutes left to play) and didn't return to action. The injury occurred in the summer, was aggravated a few weeks ago and he rolled it tonight. The doctor felt as the time he hurt it was not worth the effort to try to come back.''
``At the end (when the Warriors missed a three-point shot to tie the game) we set options. The first was a cross-screen to get a shot for Alf (Alfredo Jiminez) . And it they shut him down we had Lucas (Johnson) stepping in. We went with the second option when their defenders stepped out but we had a good shot.''
``I congratulated our players on a tremendous experience. They've left a mark for the Maine West program and the kids can be proud of themselves for years to come.''
