Winning coach Mike Miller, Galesburg
``First off we obviously feel very fortunate to have hung on to get the victory. Maine West made a great run at us and made things difficult for us. I thought we hit some clutch free throws at the end and luckily we had enough courage and heart to come through.''
(On Joey Range's status following an injury to his knee) ``His status right now is he is with our trainers and had some ice put on his knee. Taylor Thiel felt on him during a pile-up and he twisted it. Knowing Joey I know he'll be ready to play tonight. But we aren't going to take any chances with his health.''
``Obviously we have some guys who matched up with fairly well. Early we wanted to stay of out foul trouble so we went with the zone. It was more zone than we normally play but we wanted to try to keep Joey in the game a little longer. He has a problem with fouls lately and we figured it would be a good way to keep playing. At half-time we decided we had worked too hard to become a great defensive team so we went to the straight man-to-man and try to do a good job with it.''
``Obviously those guys are big time players so it makes sense to get as many touches as possible. Early I thought we did a great job of getting stuff in our offense. Toward the end we sorted of freaked out a little bit and tried to go too much one-on-one.''
Losing coach Jim Sullivan, Des Planes (Maine West)
``First of all, Congratulations to Galesburg and to Whitney Young, too. They are both incredible teams. We're just excited we had the opportunity to play in this game and we're looking forward to tonight.''
``We believe that getting floor burns, getting aggressive and diving for loose balls is a part of the game, and the magnitude of this game makes them want to do it even more.''
``Galesburg made the plays when they had to and their runs broke our rhythm.''
``Lucas Johnson feels he left his teammates down but he's been a great player for us and we don't begrudge him anything.''
``At the end of the game we had set-up that if they missed the free throw we'd call time-out and go for the tie or the win. If he made it, which he did, we had already set-up for a three-pointer. Brad (Alesi) got a good pick for one of their players jumped at him and he didn't get as good a look as he might have.''
