Winning coach George Stanton, Chicago (Whitney Young)
``They (Quincy) decided they were going to play a halfcourt game and there had been some talk that we couldn't play a halfcourt game. I think we showed we can play that way. The guys played pretty good defense as usual. It's what we expect every game.''
``We scored a few baskets and they got a few then we got a little run. The defense helped us get that run. I had mentioned to the team that its harder to get a run when you play slow down. It's hard to change gears.''
``It's a gamble people take to slow it down. I've done it myself a few times. I felt we were in pretty good shape when we were up at the quarter and when we had a real good second quarter it pretty much dictated the rest of the game.''
``We have had better stretches where we were shooting the ball better. To be honest Cordell (Henry) didn't have a good shooting day but he did some other things and got some other people involved. Normally he its most of what you saw him miss this morning.''
``I was happy with the discipline but we have a mostly senior team and they have been around. They always make fun of me, calling me a dictator. Everybody knows me and the style of discipline I demand both on the court and off.''
Losing coach Loren Wallace, Quincy (Sr.)
``I thought we had a pretty good game plan going, spread the floor, make the extra pass, penetrate and get the open look. We had the game in our hands until the last pay of the first quarter when we went out of our game plan. We went form being in control of the game to having it out of our hands.''
``What we wanted to do was control the tempo; we didn't want to run up and down the floor with them. We thought if we could get to the last quarter with a 6 to 8 point game we'd have a chance to win the game.''
``Once they got in their rhythm the game was over. Young is a very smart, well-coached team. They are powerful in every spot as well as coming off the bench. They play within themselves and make you beat them. They aren't going to beat themselves.''
``They are one of the better teams I've seen in the state of Illinois. They fit right in with some great championship teams. They aren't No. 2 in the nation for nothing.''
