Winning coach Tom Wierzba, Farmington
``First of all, after this afternoon game to say we were demoralized would probably be an understatement. We knew we had let one get away and the kids were very down in the locker room. We went to eat and they had perked up a little bit. When we went to the hotel Tom Clardy came in and said `I'm going to play even harder in the third-place game because we have something to prove. Tonight, playing Leo, they were bigger, stronger and much more athletic. But the 12 players from Farmington I thought showed that in the game of basketball, when five people play together at both ends of the court both offensively and defensively you can overcome a lot of adversity.''
``We played so well together and (Scott) Coykendall just did a super job on (Andre) Brown. We were giving him a lot of help but he did a lot on his own. I thought Seth (Nelson) did a good job of breaking down defense the entire game. The second quarter was outstanding for us when we out scored them 24-3 but we just took them to task at every facet of the game.''
``I think we just kind of hanging on in the second half but the kids, the entire team, did a great job out there.''
``Of course we're going to savor this. There is only two teams who end the year with a win and we're one of those. That's one of the things we were harking to our kids about. Also the 32 wins we had going into the game is a school record and we said make it 33-1 and it makes tougher for that record to be broken. It's been 41 years since the 1946-47 team won 31 games and now we've won 33. It shows the heart this team has had the entire season and tonight in this last game of the season.''
Losing coach Mike Manderino, Chicago (Leo)
``I think mentally we didn't bounce back form this afternoon. As a group collectively our heads were just not there.''
``I was proud that they battled back late but we had just dug ourselves too deep a hole. Had we gotten off to a better start and started feeling good about ourselves we might have been able to bounce back from our disappointment.''
``Our goal in the third quarter was to get the deficit to single digits but they're a tough team to chase and we didn't have enough left.''
