Mundelein (Carmel) vs. Batavia
Notes and Quotes
Winning coach: Charles Gandolfi, Mundelein (Carmel) ``We didn't have good at-bats the first couple of times, but then our seniors came up with some big hits. Our booboos were uncharacteristic, like it was early in the season. It very a very gratifying win for the [program, the first step for us, our first win at state.''
``Batavia is a quality team. Their pitcher kept the ball down, and really did a good job.''
Losing coach: Matt Holm, Batavia ``At the end of the game I was thinking about our slogan `Respect everyone, Fear none'''.
``We've played from behind the entire tournament , so we didn't feel pressured until their lead lengthened. You can't score runs if you don't get kids on base.''
``I'm extremely proud of our team. It was a historical season for us. The reality is we had to beat better teams in the tournament and we knew that if we would lose it would be to a better team. Carmel is a fantastic team, very well coached and they hit the tar out of the ball.''
