NOTES AND QUOTES
Winning coach, Paul Heitkamp of (Rockford) Boylan High School: ``We talked about scoring early and we did that. I was comfortable with that lead. They (Crystal Lake) fought back and then it was our turn to fight back. First we focused on pitching and second was defense behind the pitching."
(Matt Weber) ``There were lots of guys that calmed me down and I was able to gain my composure. I then thought more about each pitch and less about the previous ones. Today was a team victory. Our hitters came through and we only had two errors. Some people talk about me winning a game, but not today.
(Sean Thomas on his spectacular catch) ``My heart stopped. It was right at me and those are hard to judge. They backed me up five or six steps too. Im just glad I caught it.
Losing coach, Jeff Aldridge of (Crystal Lake) Central High School: ``This was a frustrating game. Im real proud of how we scratched and gouged and fought in this environment. I thought it showed a lot that we had everyone on their toes at the end of it. It shows a lot about character and the character of this team."
``We were feeling good (after the tie-up). I thought we hit the ball solid all day and to do it off a kid like that shows a lot about these guys.
``Im not going to blame anybody or anything. We walked a lot of guys. It is something that happened. It is not typical of us, but it happened today.
(Brian Meyer) ``I think we all thought that wed come back again because weve come back from deficits before, but it just didnt happen for us today.
``I thought we had good at-bats. Im happy with the way things were. I think we battled through and through and Im real proud of them for that.
