Winning coach, Doug Sutor, Orland Park (Sandburg): "I’m aweful proud of our young men. This is the farthest a Sandburg baseball team has ever gone in the state finals. We’ve overcome adversity to get here. We’re on a roll, winning 15 of our last 17 and we’ve got a little bit of a swagger going on."
“Glenbard is a team of great character. They’re kids battled hard and I didn’t think I could relax until we got the final out.”
“I think playing the caliber of the teams in our conference helps toughen you up. We’re a different club now than we were when we got beat by (Tinley Park) Andrew. It will a great thing for our conference and for our school district to play Andrew in the semifinals.”
Losing coach, Jim Forniciari, Glen Ellyn (Glenbard West): "We’re disappointed of course. We wanted to win and we expected to win but we just didn’t play well early in the game. When they went to the short game we just couldn’t get the out. The rain delays this week didn’t make a difference. We were ready to play; we just didn’t play well. You have to play defense every day and you have to pitch. They made all the routine plays and that makes a difference."
“Our seniors were real leaders and they underastand our expectation of working hard. They are a big part of the reason we had the season we had.”
