Notes
& Quotes |
Winning coach: Chris
Ledbetter, Oak Park (Oak Park-River
Forest) - ``Naturally we were
concerned early in the game. The
kids weren't themselves and we were
hitting the ball like we have been.
Some of the kids complained they
didn't sleep well (Friday) last
night. Maybe it was the fact we
were in the semifinals and we
weren't focusing on what we needed
to do.''
``We talked after a couple of
innings and told the kids it was a
matter of getting focused on the
game and let things take care of
themselves. We started to put the
ball in play and forced them to
make the plays. Once we started to
hit the ball the kids seemed to
relax.''
Leftfielder Matt Rine - ``Coach
told us to put the ball in play and
make them play it. We started to do
that and the game started to come
to us. Everyone got up once we
started to hit the ball and it
seemed to catch on with everyone.''
Pitcher Ian Matthews - ``I was just
trying to get ahead of guys. I was
using the offspeed on the lower end
of their order and fast balls on
the first four guys. This is the
third time I played Oak Park and I
think they were figuring me out. I
just played my game and let our
defense take care of things behind
me.''
Losing coach: George Ushela,
LaGrange (Lyons) - ``I'm very proud
of my kids, and my hat's off to Oak
Park. I hope they win it all. We
have a fine conference, and it
would be great to have two teams in
our conference finish their seasons
on a winning note. We're
disappointed, of course, but it's
been said before that if this is
the worst thing that ever happens
to these kids, they're gonna have
great lives.''
(Jim) Knytych threw a fantastic
game, pitched his heart out. He was
around the plate the whole game.
When he got it over, they hit it.
Both teams made errors today, but
they're on a roll. They came back
yesterday, and they did it again
today."
