Anthony Holman To Join IHSA Administrative Staff August 15

Anthony Holman will join the staff of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) August 15 as Assistant Executive Director. He will be the 25th person to serve on the administrative staff in the 99-year history of the organization.

"Anthony brings a vibrant personality and a proven track record as an administrator to our staff," said IHSA Executive Director Dave Fry. "He has many talents." Fry said Holman's addition to the staff allows the Association to complete another of the strategies formulated through the Strategic Planning process. "Expansion of the administrative staff was a priority strategy," Fry said. "It was clear to the action team that the expected growth in the various activity programs, and the ongoing expansion of other services to the membership and our athletic officials, warranted an increase in staffing. The addition of Anthony enables us to complete the reorganization and expansion of our administrative staff."

Holman is the third new administrator named by the Board of Directors to the IHSA staff this summer. He and newcomers Dave Gannaway and Beth Sauser bring the size of the administrative staff to seven. Fry said job assignments for all members of the administrative staff will be completed shortly.

Holman comes to the IHSA staff from the Quad Cities Sports Commission where he was its executive director since August of 1998. In that position, he represented five different communities in two states, marketing the area to sports events and organizations. During his tenure as executive director of the 30-member commission, Holman served as director of the inaugural Quad Cities Marathon, which drew more than 3,600 participants.

From 1996-98 he was director of marketing and merchandising for the Mobile BayBears baseball team and Mobile Mysticks hockey team. Anthony earned the Class AA Southern League Merchandise/Marketing Director of the Year while with the BayBears. He was director of merchandising and game day operations for the Quad City Mallards from 1995-96.

A Lockport native, Holman was a three-year starter at guard on the Lockport (Twp.) basketball team, and was a catcher and third baseman on the Porter varsity baseball team.

In 1995, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, majoring in political science and public administration with a minor in speech communication and sports marketing. Holman was a member of the 1993 Augustana basketball team which finished second in the nation. He later did post graduate work at the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, AL from 1997-98.
