Girls Volleyball Adopts Sectional Complex Format

BLOOMINGTON — Competition in the girls volleyball will be conducted using the sectional complex format in both Class A and Class AA state tournament series beginning in the 1998-99 (next) school year. Those changes were approved by the IHSA Board of Directors at its regular meeting Monday (March 30) in the IHSA Office.

In the Class A series, there will be 16 sectional sites feeding eight super-sectionals with those eight winners advancing to the State Final. In Class AA there will be 14 sectional sites feeding seven super-sectionals with those winners and the Chicago Public League representative advancing to the State Final. Matches will be played at the site of the highest seeded team in all rounds of competition prior to the sectional semifinals. Then a site will host the sectional semifinals on Thursday of Week 17 with the winners advancing to the sectional finals that following Saturday. Super-sectionals will follow.

The Class A format will incorporate 23-28 schools in a sectional complex, while there will be 15-16 in each Class AA sectional complex.
