EastSide Centre To Host Dual Team Wrestling Tournament

BLOOMINGTON — The new EastSide Centre in East Peoria will host the 1998 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Dual Team Wrestling State Final Tournament Feb. 28.

The 53,000 square foot facility becomes the sixth different facility to host the event. Last year, the tournament was held in Huff Hall on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

"This whole complex offers a variety of venues that can be used by school programs, and our dual team wrestling tournament lends itself to the facility," said IHSA Executive Director Dave Fry. "I'm anxious for the wrestling to start there. Fans from the competing teams will very close to the action. It should create an energized atmosphere for wrestling."

The EastSide Centre will have seating for 2,000 fans and free parking for 1,400 vehicles.

Eight Class A and eight Class AA wrestling teams will compete in the 1998 one-day event. The schedule will be:

Session No. 1
7:00-7:45 a.m. -- Class AA Weigh-in
8:00-8:45 a.m. -- Class A Weigh-in
9:00 a.m. -- Class AA Quarterfinals (4 mats)
11:00 a.m. -- Class A Quarterfinals (4 mats)
2:00 p.m. -- Class A Semifinals (2 mats)
2:00 p.m. -- Class AA Semifinals (2 mats)

Session No. 2
6:00 p.m. -- Class A 3rd Place and Championship (2 mats)
6:00 p.m. -- Class AA 3rd Place and Championship (2 mats)

Sandwich is defending Class A dual team champion and New Lenox (Providence) is defending Class AA dual team champion.

The 1998 Individual Wrestling State Final Tournament will be conducted at the Assembly Hall on the Urbana-Champaign campus the weekend (Feb. 20-21) prior to the Dual Team State Final Tournament.
