Investigative Team Put Into Place
BLOOMINGTON The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors Thursday authorized the Executive Director to appoint members to its Investigative Team during its regular August meeting, which was conducted as a teleconference.
Among the recommendations of the Task Force on Public/Private School Issues which the Board previously accepted was that the IHSA's investigative efforts be enhanced. The vehicle to accomplish this is the Investigative Team, a standing IHSA group like the advisory committees. Members of the team will be appointed to staggered terms. They will receive training prior to the program getting under way.
Investigative Team members will be current member school principals and athletic administrators. They will be appointed from geographical areas of the state, but will be used throughout the state as needed, according to IHSA Executive Director Dave Fry. "The constitution and by-laws of IHSA are subject to change on a regular basis," Fry said. "It is important that those who serve on our Investigative Team be current practitioners in the buildings of the member schools. They will perform a very necessary function in the administration of IHSA's by-laws."
The next regular meeting of the Board is scheduled for Sept. 15. Fry plans to have the team recruited and in place by that meeting.
Other Action
The Board took the following action regarding the general business of the Association:
- Approved several financial transactions reported by the Treasurer.
Discussion Items
At each meeting of the Board of Directors, there are certain agenda items which the Board discusses but upon which it takes no action. Following is a report of those on the August 14, 1997 agenda:
Facilities Action Team: The Board received a report from the Facilities Action Team, indicating that a recommendation for selection of an architect to work with the Association on the expansion of office facilities will be formally presented at the September 15th meeting.
Distribution of Annual All-School Mailing: Staff reported that distribution of the annual all-school mailing of supplies has been delayed due to the United Parcel Service strike. Arrangements have been made to begin distributing these materials to the schools and media by Parcel Post, starting today, August 14. However, any school or media outlet desiring to come to the office to pick up their supplies is welcome to do so.
